The Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro monitor calibrator expands the configuration options of the Calibrite ColorChecker Display Studio and improves its calibration speed, going below two minutes and approaching one minute in some cases.

Although it belongs to a series prior to the new Calibrite ColorChecker Studio, it is still a calibrator to be taken into account. Both for its features, its configuration possibilities and its price, which is more affordable than the latest Calibrite model.

The ccProfile software, included with the Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro, offers advanced features not available in the Calibrite ColorChecker Display or Calibrite ColorChecker Studio. It allows you to set a range of brightness, gamma and white point with more precise options.

The best budget monitor calibrator

The ColorChecker Display is the new version of the previous X-Rite i1 Display Studio and is Calibrite’s cheapest calibrator. Its calibration speed is very similar to that of the more professional models, but it differs in that it does not calibrate scanners and printers, like the Display Pro, Display Plus or ColorChecker Studio models.

Nor does it measure on-screen color uniformity or constantly monitor ambient light throughout the day to adjust calibration. These details may be key if you are a professional photographer, illustrator or designer, in which case, I would recommend opting for a higher-end model.

However, if you don’t want to spend too much on a calibrator or your monitor, laptop or projector is already pretty good and auto-adjusts colors depending on ambient light (like Apple’s displays with TrueTone), then ColorChecker Display may be a good option.

Is the Calibrite ColorChecker Display worth it?

The ColorChecker Display gives you a very good calibration for a much more affordable price than the ColorChecker Studio or ColorChecker Display Pro, as it is technically very similar to these, it just doesn’t offer some features and settings for professionals.

The Wacom Color Manager is Wacom’s specific display calibrator for the Cintiq and Wacom MobileStudio Pro display graphics tablets. How to choose the best monitor calibrator

When looking for a display calibrator, you should pay close attention to its specifications, because although some models have very similar names and price ranges, they may actually have very different accuracy or performance.

Delta-E maximum

The Delta E (ΔE) value is the result of a mathematical formula that indicates the difference between two color samples. The closer Delta E is to zero, the less difference there is between the samples.

Therefore, the closer the Delta E value of a monitor calibrator, the more accurate it will be in calibrating colors. When ΔE is less than 2.3, differences are considered to be practically imperceptible to the human eye.

As the display calibrators measure several aspects, we can consider the “maximum Delta E” as the highest degree of difference that the calibrator can reach in any of the aspects measured.

I mean, the longer it takes a screen calibrator to perform its analysis, the more difficult it will be for you to find time to calibrate your monitor and the easier it will be for you to end up not maintaining a periodic calibration. 

Therefore, it is important to look for a display calibrator that, without compromising the quality of the display, is as fast as possible. The best screen calibrators manage to perform this task in less than 2 minutes.

Remember that it is advisable to perform a calibration once a month or at least once every six months.

Ambient light detector
